According to international guidelines, the evaluation of sleep–wake disorders needs a clinical interview addressing patient sleep history and an examination addressing sleep and waking functions and common medical, psychiatric, and medication-/substance-related comorbidities. Most of the sleep disorders need to be additionally evaluated with subjective measures while other sleep disorders may need objective evaluations. During the perinatal period, the most frequent sleep disorders include insomnia, hypersomnolence, some parasomnias, such as nightmares, sleep disorders breathing, and obstructive sleep apnea, and the 20% experience restless legs syndrome. Accordingly, we will discuss how to evaluate and assess these sleep disorders during the peripartum period by using specific subjective questionnaires, which have been used in pregnancy and postpartum.

摘要
