Learning from failures is crucial for organizations to prevent recurrence and enhance performance. However, the role of organizational memory in this process, particularly within computer-based knowledge repositories, remains unclear. This study aimed to develop a generalized hypothetical model of institutional memory structures in learning from failure based on a case study of a company that successfully implemented such learning practices. The model was tested using quantitative data collected through questionnaires administered to employees from both the case company and benchmark companies. A covariance structure analysis was conducted to validate the model. The results confirmed an acceptable model fit for both the case company and benchmark companies, suggesting its generalizability. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationship between organizational memory, technology use, and learning from failure, offering insights for companies struggling to establish effective learning practices. Future research should extend this model to examine the impact of organizational memory on learning outcomes and further explore the connection between recorded knowledge and human memory.
