Application of Proton MRS in the Alzheimer’s Disease Continuum: Recent Advances and Future Directions

Proton (1H) magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has shown great promise to detect and longitudinally monitor early pathological changes across the Alzheimer’s disease (AD) spectrum, highlighting its potential in early diagnosis through noninvasive assessment of neurochemical alterations. The application of 1H MRS in evaluating several metabolites offers insights into the biochemical changes in the preclinical, prodromal, and dementia stages of AD, underscoring its value in understanding disease pathophysiology and aiding in the development of preventative therapies.
