We present a preliminary analysis of the recorded differences between clock time and radio-signal time, along with the temperature data that were recorded by Felix Schmeidler during almost half a century. We furthermore deal with the impact of astronomical clock readings on the interpretation of the wavering frequencies of specific types of pulsating variable stars. Considering that almost no observatories in the world had access to Riefler time standards covering five decades or more, and that many observatories worked until the early 1980s with time standards that were even orders of magnitude lower than those of state-of-the-art mechanical clocks, we outline the merit of some interpretations put forward to explain cyclic and quasi-cyclic behavior of pulsating stars in terms of the presence of one or even multiple companion stars.
