When Swiping Goes Wrong: Dating Applications, Interpersonal Aggression, and Sexual Violence
摘要
The rise of dating applications alongside technological innovations has dramatically altered the way in which humans communicate, meet, and form relationships. It has also shifted the way in which violence—particularly sexual violence—can occur. This chapter explores the prominence of dating applications and their association with both in-person and online violence, including traditional forms of violence as well as emerging forms of online harassment and aggression. Further, it includes details on the prominence of dating application-facilitated violence, what protective practices users currently engage in, and what technological, situational, and psychological mechanisms may facilitate or make a user more susceptible to violence.
