Skin lesions are numerous and morphologically different. Papules, pustules, collarettes, scales, erosions, ulcers, plaques, and nodules are frequently observed in dogs and cats with skin diseases and are grossly easy to recognize. Some of these lesions may be present at the same time, representing different stages of the same disease or clinical signs of different coexisting diseases. In this chapter, the macroscopic aspects of the most common skin lesions, or those from which is possible to collect cells for their interpretation, are treated. For each lesion, the most appropriate sampling technique is also discussed.

摘要

Skin lesions are numerous and morphologically different. Papules, pustules, collarettes, scales, erosions, ulcers, plaques, and nodules are frequently observed in dogs and cats with skin diseases and are grossly easy to recognize. Some of these lesions may be present at the same time, representing different stages of the same disease or clinical signs of different coexisting diseases. In this chapter, the macroscopic aspects of the most common skin lesions, or those from which is possible to collect cells for their interpretation, are treated. For each lesion, the most appropriate sampling technique is also discussed.
