This chapter presents the perspective of a female professional immigrating to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Hema, originally from India, discusses the opportunities and challenges of living away from family and focuses on how the host community supported her efforts to create a home away from home while maintaining her career as a licensed physical therapist and board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist.
