Advancing Security in Healthcare IoT: A Literature Review on MitM Attack Detection and Mitigation Using Machine Learning and Encryption Techniques

Healthcare Internet of Things (HIoT) systems have revolutionized patient care through real-time monitoring and enhanced efficiency. However, they remain highly vulnerable to cyberattacks, particularly Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks, which threaten data integrity and patient safety. This paper provides a comprehensive review of existing research on MitM attack detection and mitigation in HIoT. The review identifies significant advancements, including hybrid detection-mitigation frameworks and lightweight encryption protocols tailored for resource-constrained IoT devices. Despite these developments, challenges remain in achieving real-time detection, balancing resource efficiency, and adapting to evolving attack patterns. By addressing these gaps, future research can contribute to robust and scalable security solutions for HIoT, ensuring data integrity and enhancing patient safety.
