Modeling of a Gear Train Made of Polymer Materials

An important task of the modern automotive industry is to improve the operational properties of the designed machines, increase their energy efficiency, productivity, and environmental friendliness. In recent years, hybrid power plants have been increasingly used in motor vehicles, in which the main source of mechanical energy is the internal combustion engine, and the additional one is the electric motor together with various types of energy storage devices. However, increasing the power of the main engine and improving the transmission design leads to an increase in the intensity of loads on the transmission and an expansion of the spectrum of vibrations in the wheeled vehicle. Dynamic loads can lead to premature fatigue failures of transmission parts and their increased wear. Taking into account the high cost of manufacturing modern trans-missions, the rational selection of gear parameters, gear materials, a decrease in the level of oscillations in the transmission, as well as the creation of a methodology for calculating the strength and geometry of gears is an important and urgent problem of modern mechanical engineering.
