This article discusses the growing necessity for students to engage more with distance learning and the challenges of developing essential competencies through this mode of education. It provides insights into the issues of forming competencies at various levels and the development of methodologies for effectively utilizing elements of existing distance learning platforms. Additionally, the article explores the use of the Moodle distance learning platform, which is widely implemented in higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. The methodology proposed includes not only maximizing the potential of Moodle but also integrating additional software tools created by the author to enhance the development of students’ competencies. The methodology is demonstrated through the example of the “Information Technology” course, with results presented in graphical form. The article also highlights the potential for using these results in higher education for big data analysis.
