Impact of Social Media on Mental Health with Reference to Fear of Missing Out

Human beings are sociable by nature. They look for friendships, companionships among people. As they are so much busy with their work pressure, they do not get time to socialize physically. Therefore they look for initiating such relationships through virtual mode. This gets extended to chatting, then getting personal. As far as the relationships are successful, its well and good but the problem arises if the relationships are failures. It leads to mental breakdown. Mental stress or traumas are an unbalanced mental state of mind where the mind has no control over its actions. Any adverse incident can trigger spontaneous mental reactions which leads to mental illness. This is a common behavior found among people of all ages, irrespective of their status or position in society. Technological revolution has made people more and more exposed to social media and communication became faster. What seemed to take more than seven days, is now possible within just a fraction of a second. Mental illness off late started to gain momentum because of fast lifestyle, instant Maggie kind of getting into a relationship and coming out of it. Most of the youngsters get into virtual relationships through online chatting app that are available in plenty online. People, especially adolescents, find it difficult to handle and get trapped in this vicious circle after which it becomes very difficult to come out and continue their previous life in the mainstream world. Mental health is a global cause of concern and many researches are being conducted by psychologists, medical practitioners on the cause of mental depressions and traumas. Therefore, the basic objective of this paper is to make an analysis of the cause of the stress traumas leading to acute mental health deterioration and how technology like the Internet of Things (IOT) can help in their recovery.
