Up to this juncture, the discussion of Foxite sociability and its depiction in caricature has focused primarily on electoral campaigning and domestic politics. During this period of relative peace in terms of Britain’s foreign policy post-American War of Independence, Foxite sociability was portrayed as an excessive and frivolous enterprise, existing outside of Parliament and undermining the seriousness of Fox's political supporters. Alcohol, along with symbols of lower-order support, formed the foundation of anti-Foxite caricature assaults.
