This chapter starts with an introduction to Google Earth for the study of landscapes, and in particular for their morphology, distribution, and changes. It also considers the more general role of air photographyAir photographyand remote sensingRemote sensing in archaeological studies. Google Earth has been immensely useful in the study of World HeritageWorld Heritage Sites and in the study of the destruction of sites in recent years, particularly in the Middle East. Examples are given from SyriaSyriaand IraqIraq.
