This chapter introduces the concept of the Foreign Policy Commentariat (FPC) and explains the significance of the foreign policy commentary articulated in the pages of Foreign Policy and Foreign Affairs magazines. This commentary is presented as being distinct from academic analyses due to the editorial practices of these magazines and their general public audiences. The chapter also briefly outlines the chapters to follow: (2) the methodological and conceptual approach, and analyses of the (3) Obama, (4) Trump, and (5) Biden administrations.
