The bian stone (bianshi, stone needle) is the earliest (about 4000 years ago) instrument of the thermal therapy (Wu et al. Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 100:445–450, 2016), also used for the acupuncture (later replaced by the metal needles—silver, copper, brass, iron, stainless steel; the difference in the thermal conductivity could be essential in the medical efficiency of the acupuncture). The bian stone consists of the nanometre-sized calcite crystals and emits the infrared radiation in the 8–14 \(\upmu \) spectral range that is easily absorbed by the human body and improved the energy metabolism and promotes the microcirculation.
