Low-Code Development (LCD) is a means for domain experts without software engineering training to address their software requirements themselves, bridging the gap between the high demand for software and the low supply of professional developers. By abstracting from traditional textual programming, a Low-Code Development Platform (LCDP) offers tools that are closer to how domain experts think about their problems, such as visual programming. In this paper, we present an LCDP for assembly workers to generate Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code for the assembly devices they operate. We examine what the assembly workers need to know in order to use the LCPD through three expert interviews. The results indicate that understanding the digital mapping of real-world objects and processes in the LCDP and the underlying technical processes is key for domain experts to create their own software.

摘要
