The chapter builds on research and outlines the prevalence and impact of sensory processing differences in individuals with ASD, including the influence of these differences on attention, emotion regulation, and social functioning. The Autism Sensory Distress Scale is introduced as a practical tool for tracking fluctuations in sensory distress and supporting self-monitoring, facilitating environmental adaptations, and guiding support strategies. The chapter also reviews evidence-based strategies for managing sensory overwhelm, including body-based regulation techniques, advocacy for environmental modifications, and mindfulness-based practices. These strategies aim to promote autonomy, inclusion, and strengths-based support. Recognising and accommodating sensory needs in autistic adults is highlighted, particularly in high-performance and professional contexts.
