“We Need More Than a Piece of Paper”: Participants’ Proposed Strategies for Family Violence Intervention/Prevention
摘要
Family Violence Intervention Orders (FVIOs) function within the cultural practices and beliefs of the South Sudanese Australian community, which can sometimes limit their effectiveness. In this chapter, participants propose alternative strategies that could complement or replace FVIOs, aiming to reduce reliance on legal interventions while addressing the root causes of family violence within families and intimate relationships. This chapter explores these proposed approaches, assessing their potential to provide more holistic and sustainable solutions. By integrating these community-driven insights, the discussion aims to inform more culturally responsive and effective family violence intervention and prevention strategies for the South Sudanese and may be applicable to the broader African Australian communities.
