Phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs) serve as a viable alternative for individuals unsuitable for corneal refractive surgery. They offer several advantages, including effective correction of high ametropias with favorable visual outcomes, absence of postoperative corneal ectasia risk, preservation of accommodation, and the flexibility for explantation at any point. The term “bilensectomy” specifically refers to the removal of a pIOL during cataract extraction. Given that a significant portion of patients with pIOLs will undergo bilensectomy, understanding the surgical technique and refractive outcomes associated with this procedure becomes paramount.
