Security remains one of the biggest critical success factors affecting the consolidation and growth of the airline business, operations, and sales transparency, as well sas compliance with aviation laws. Centralized systems worked on databases and several layers of go-between services are not only prone to fraud and hacking but also time and cost-consuming. Blockchain solution can be defined as a decentralized and immutable distributed ledger system that provides security to and increases efficiency in the performance of the system and builds trust among the users. The application of blockchain is also expected to transform ticketing through the smart contracting feature, sharing of data in real-time, and record-keeping that cannot be altered easily, baggage tracking and management of aircraft as well as supply chain. Furthermore, the use of blockchain technology in various solutions improves passengers’ identification, fights ticketing fraud, as well as develops a more secure and transparent loyalty program. Nevertheless, challenges are realized when introducing this technology in the aviation sector, such as legal restraints, expansion factors, and structures. In this chapter, the subject matter focuses on the possibilities of using blockchain in the airline industry, the opportunities and difficulties related to the implementation of blockchain and possible future developments which may contribute to the improvement of security, efficiency and transparency of the airline industry.

摘要
