This chapter examines the pervasive impact of health disparities in rheumatology, focusing on conditions like SLE and RA, where disparities based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and insurance coverage persist. Beyond medical factors, social determinants of health play a crucial role, influencing health outcomes profoundly. Implicit biases among healthcare providers further exacerbate disparities, affecting clinical encounters, diagnostic decisions, and treatment recommendations. Addressing these biases through awareness, education, and systemic changes is critical to mitigating health disparities and achieving equitable healthcare outcomes.
