Applying the Montessori Method in Digital Education: Challenges and Opportunities

The Montessori Method is an age-old technique that focuses on the overall development of a child’s capabilities through self-directed learning, practical experiences, and individualized teaching. This chapter will discuss the implementation of the Montessori Method in digital education concerning early childhood education. It discusses the problems and prospects Montessori values from two important dimensions of children’s learning: cognition and linguistics, and social-learning. It has been practiced to enable a student to learn themselves and develop thinking, which might face a challenge during the migration to digital platforms—especially the hand’s individualized nature of the method and overcoming technological barriers. The study underlines that the most important point is creating a digital environment that fosters independence and creativity in children. Proposals are the training of teachers with a more specialized orientation to adapt the Montessori approach to the digital environment, the creation of digital tools and resources that mirror the core values of Montessori pedagogy, and guaranteeing that digital platforms support interactive self-paced learning. The study therefore posits a further research drive into determining the effectiveness of the Montessori Method under digital education, concentrating on ways to merge conventional Montessori methods with modern technological advancements to better achieve the goal of early childhood education.
