Automation and Job Security: Policy Implications for Digital Labor Governance
摘要
As job security and the governance of digital labor are significantly affected by the continuous evolution of automation technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data, this chapter seeks to explore the impacts of automation on employment in Jordan. There is an urgent need for strong policy frameworks that can mitigate the risks of job displacement and harness economic opportunities. Employing a mixed-methods approach that draws qualitative insights from interviews and quantitative analysis of labor market data, this work assesses the impact of automation on various sectors. The results underscore the urgent need for adaptive labor governance strategies involving workforce upskilling, reform of labor laws, and increased social protections to ensure fair and secure employment opportunities. It proposes research-inclusive governance forums that promote worker participation and are conducive to the equitable distribution of the benefits of automation. It is concluded that future research should focus on the long-term policy impacts of digital labor governance, particularly in terms of how well governance frameworks steer through the complexities introduced by technological innovations.
