Psychological Factors in Public Compliance with Digital Governance Policies
摘要
This study evaluates the influence of psychological factors on public compliance with digital governance policies and, more importantly, the influence of attitude and behavior that follows and, therefore, impacts the efficacy of such policies. Most literature on compliance accentuates the reliance on technical and structural factors; contrasting this belief, this research argues that there is a need for psychological elements—trust, legitimacy, and fairness—to bring about adherence to digital policy. The research adopts a qualitative methodology wherein a descriptive and an analytical approach is used. The descriptive method involves a synthesis of existing literature concerning the psychological and societal dynamics under consideration to provide contexts for the questions at issue, while the analytical method focuses on the interrelation of public attitudes and policy formation. Results will emphasize the crucial role of psychological determinants in achieving compliance and will provide actionable recommendations toward policy improvement—an academic insight to further bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications to ensure sustainable compliance in today’s ever-increasingly digitized societies.
