Park in a Truck: A Community Led Green Initiative
摘要
Park in a Truck (PiaT) is an initiative of Thomas Jefferson University’s Landscape Architecture Program and Laboratory for Urban and Social Innovation (LUSI). PiaT brings nature back into everyday city life by linking adjacent available lots to create block-by-block green networks and corridors of high-quality, outdoor spaces. It has been well documented that clean air, clean water, and the protection of limited green spaces is critical to healthy urban neighborhoods. However, in Philadelphia, underserved neighborhoods have historically suffered disproportionately when it comes to environmental, social and economic justice. PiaT is a community-led initiative to create a citizen-operated green network throughout Philadelphia established through low-cost, fast-turnaround renovations of vacant lots by a community’s residents. The DIY Open source PiaT Toolkit is a roadmap communities can follow to improve their neighborhoods by creating public green space into a network of green healthy spaces. Building parks can be an expensive and complicated undertaking – the Toolkit enables a community to do all phases of the planning and design by providing its citizens with all the information necessary to design, build and maintain their new park.
