Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) provide and maintain transport infrastructure and services in the Republic of Ireland. TII is committed to the sustainable delivery and operation of its transport networks and supporting Ireland’s ambitious emissions reduction targets, with a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030. It is within this context that TII has developed the TII Roads Emissions Model (REM) and complementary TII Carbon Tool to quantify and visualise the greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide (CO2) and CO2-equivalent (CO2e)) of vehicles on the National Road Network (NRN) both in the existing situation and future years. The Carbon Tool quantifies carbon impacts of road and light rail projects over the full lifecycle from high level early design to construction, use, maintenance, and end of life. The Carbon Tool assists TII and its contractors in complying with the greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting requirements as per the revised Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2014/52/EU and allows for the identification of emissions hotspots to understand where carbon savings can be made.
