Facilitating Choice of Long Haul HD Environmental-Friendly Drivetrains: LONGRUN Life Cycle Analysis Tool
摘要
The LCA calculation tool is a standalone application developed as part of the EU H2020 LONGRUN project (GA no. 874972) facilitating life cycle analysis of long-distance heavy-duty drivetrains and supporting the choice of the most effective technologies for minimizing overall carbon footprint. Using the substantial amount of life cycle impact data collected during the LONGRUN project, the tool facilitates fast, straightforward and fair LCA impact comparison of heavy-duty battery electric, fuel cell electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and ICE powertrains manufactured using different vehicle production methods, running on a range of alternative fuels or plug-in electricity sources, in a standardized and repeatable manner. The current paper details the approach used for calculating heavy-duty vehicle lifetime carbon footprint (gCO2eq/km) and overall energy consumption (MJ/km) in the proposed tool. It then discusses a generic LCA comparison of fuel cell electric, battery electric, hybrid electric, combustion engine powertrains for a 5-LH category 40T truck running on renewable H2, HVO, diesel and future grid electricity to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in comparing next generation low carbon drivetrain technologies along with their energetic feasibility. Finally, the main outcomes and future improvements are summarized.
