The Barcode
摘要
Wikipedia informs us that “ the barcodeBarcode was invented by Norman Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver in the US in 1952,” the British Railway system used it as far back as 1962 to read rolling stock. The British system could read the codes on the sides of trains traveling up to 160 km/h. The Wikipedia article on barcodes gives interesting and enjoyable information about the history and the types of barcodes. With the help of electronic readers, the bar codes are used to fetch data from a database. Thus, the POS (point-of-sale) checkout systems and inventory operations are accelerated and made less prone to manual entry errors. These attributes have been immediately welcomed by retail shops, warehouses, supermarkets, and pharmacies and have entered our lives. I have been intrigued by the barcode for a long time and have always wished to be able to decode it myself. So, I have set about to work on barcode generation and reading.
