In its article “555 timer IC, ” Wikipedia asserts that “it is one of the most popular timing ICs due to its flexibility and price…In 2017, it was said that over a billion555timers are produced annually by some estimates and that the design was‘probably the most popular integrated circuit ever made.”’ 555 owes such popularity to its capability of functioning as a bistable, a mono-stable, and an astable multivibrator. Camenzind said 555 users had invented applications he had not foreseen. It offers all these functionalities in a decent 8-pin DIP package.
