The orbital exam is critical in establishing the differential diagnosis and directing further studies. The orbital exam begins with a detailed history to determine the chronicity of symptoms, past medical history including systemic medical conditions or neoplasia, and past surgical history and review any corresponding imaging. Further studies, if indicated, will then be guided by the orbital examination.
