Discussion of MotoGP’s Externalities: From Technological Innovation to the Ecological Footprint
摘要
Like any motorsport, MotoGP can be discussed in terms of positive externalities but also negative externalities for society. Positive externalities such as MotoGP being a “natural laboratory” for the development of energy efficiency mechanisms, road safety instruments and the development of drivers’ well-being are spontaneously pointed out. Additionally, in this chapter, we will also focus on technological innovation: exploring how new technologies developed in the context of competitions can influence the evolution of road motorcycles. Furthermore, the technical solutions developed in the context of competitions can subsequently be adopted and applied also in the road motorcycle sector. But there are also negative externalities, associated with the “environmental footprint”, the linkage to less transparent markets, as well as the accumulation of competitive inequalities. This chapter will seek to identify these dimensions, contributing to a broader debate.
