Gravitational waves (GWs) are ‘ripples’ in the fabric of space-time caused by the most energetic and violent phenomena in the Universe. They were predicted by Albert Einstein in 1916 in his theory of general relativity. In this Chapter, it is described the derivation of the gravitational waves equation under the linear approximation and the sources that can generate them are illustrated.

摘要

Gravitational waves (GWs) are ‘ripples’ in the fabric of space-time caused by the most energetic and violent phenomena in the Universe. They were predicted by Albert Einstein in 1916 in his theory of general relativity. In this Chapter, it is described the derivation of the gravitational waves equation under the linear approximation and the sources that can generate them are illustrated.
