This chapter examines the intersection of formal and informal approaches to second language (L2) learning in the digital age, adopting an asset-based perspective. Building on prior discussions of positive psychology in L2 education, we shift our perspective from a vertical developmental framework to a horizontal perspective that highlights how these two perspectives complement one another. The digital age has revolutionized L2 education by providing innovative tools and resources that enhance both formal and informal learning environments. Formal approaches, rooted in structured pedagogy, are now more interactive and effective due to technological advancements. Simultaneously, informal learning, characterized by its flexibility and learner-driven nature, has gained new relevance through digital platforms. This chapter explores the theoretical underpinnings of both formal and informal approaches and delves into their integration within the new era of digital learning.
