Redundancy in data exchanged over the Internet hinders efficiency of communications lines. When the same data are transmitted repeatedly over the same path in a short period of time, it is redundant communications. Our research group has developed the TR (Traffic Reduction) node to reduce such redundancy in traffic. In this study, we improved data management for the stream cache of the TR node. By using the stream cache, the TR node becomes capable of efficient and flexible use of storage space. At the same time, the synthesis of delivered content requires complex data management. We have successfully used metadata for the cached data in the retransmission detection process. As a result, we have been able to reduce the load on the TR node and effectively reduce traffic redundancy.
