Fostering Intermodal Logistics Through Digital Entities – An Approach to Mitigate Individual Logistics by Leveraging Smart Cyber-Physical Systems
摘要
With the ongoing rise in global trade linkage and the further worsening of global climatic conditions, the necessity for smart, interconnected systems for logistic tasks becomes increasingly pressing to mitigate the Green House Gas Emissions (GHGE) caused by transportation while simultaneously enabling the fulfillment of logistic operations. This paper presents an approach for a smart agent-based intermodal logistic system that could help bridging the gap between the need to reduce passenger and goods-specific transportation and the requirement to fulfill logistic operations under specific constraints, particularly delivery time and condition of the goods. In addition, the identified limitations are pointed out and further research directions to expand the system’s capabilities are addressed.
