Inadequate resources for you to accomplish your work can diminish your productivity and morale. Not asking for appropriate support when launching a program will often impair your ability to make it successful and may hurt your credibility in the long run. Even programs that are sufficiently resourced initially may suffer from inadequate support as they grow in size and scope. Demonstrating the value of your program to others and learning when, how, and where to ask for additional resources as the program grows is important to your success as a faculty member. Sources of additional support may include, but are not limited to, your department, school, centers, institutes and health system, as well as external granting agencies, foundations, and companies. Depending upon the nature of the program, you may also be able to solicit support from donors who are sufficiently interested in funding its activities and perhaps even endowing it.
