Conflicts of Interest and Commitment
摘要
Sometime in your career as a faculty member, you will likely be faced with a conflict of interest, a conflict of commitmentConflict of commitment, or both. Some will be obvious to you while others may not. Perceived conflicts of interest and commitment should be treated as seriously as actual ones because others react to what they believe, whether or not it is true. You should be able to recognize these potential conflicts when they occur. Most schools have committees and offices that deal with conflicts of interest, and there are a number of strategies that can be utilized to mitigate or manage the conflict. Conflicts of commitment are often harder to recognize and handle. They can arise insidiously as you accept responsibilities without considering the effort required to fulfill them and the impact on your ability to manage existing commitments of your faculty position. Handling both types of conflict is important to your success as a faculty member and to avoid damage to your reputation.
