The Carousel Game: Playful Risk and Regulation
摘要
Play occurs throughout the life course in various forms, and in social work education, play techniques have long been used to prepare students for practice, especially role plays. For memorable and pleasurable learning to occur, certain conditions are required, such as risk-taking, and polyvagal theory helps make sense of the relationship between play and the body. In this chapter, “The Carousel Game” is presented, which utilizes play techniques, including humor, spontaneous response, and accelerated action. It offers students the opportunity to bring awareness to their sense of embodiment during a heightened state of stress and excitement, reflect on their emotional responses, and consider how they enter relationships with clients.
