Detecting Flood and Flood-Affected Regions in Wayanad Kerala via Satellite Imagery
摘要
There has been a history of floods in Kerala including recent floods and landslides in 2024 in the Wayanad district. Floods are the number one cause of disasters among other natural disasters and require the use of the latest technologies for monitor, extent, and early predictions. Timely and correct pieces of information are necessary for taking action to handle the disaster efficiently. This paper addresses the use of Google Earth Engine for flood mapping which will help analyze the situations of flood-affected areas, which will help in planning future actions. Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar Database used to examine before and after flood satellite images. Permanent water bodies and floods were checked separately using different pixel values on the Google platform. Later to validate the flood mapping in the Wayanad district area. A review of existing ML/DL flood mapping and prediction techniques is also analyzed.
