In this chapter, I bring together all that I discussed in the book and present implications going forward. I begin by restating the rationale for the book and the research that it provides, demonstrating why it is vital to focus on social media regulation and digital governance in countries like Nigeria that tend to be neglected in the literature. I also reiterate the findings of earlier chapters and the book’s main argument, which revolves around regulatory annexation and the struggle for digital freedom in Nigeria. Following this, I touch on new developments that have taken place since 2022, including the introduction of a Code of Practice in Nigeria and the global move towards the governance of artificial intelligence. I conclude by examining the approach to social media regulation that is most suitable to Global South countries like Nigeria in light of all that I found.
