Since the first social media site was created in 1997, it has become a staple in society to be present on social media because of its ability to generate communication, networking, information sharing, entertainment, learning, support, civic engagement, and marketing with ease. As more social platforms have developed over time, users are constantly at risk of being affected mentally, physically, and financially by social media crime. Cyberbullying, harassment, sexting, and online grooming are the leading causes for mental health concerns among adolescents that are exposed to frequent social media use. Hill et al. [1]. Many social media platforms have email verification to ensure that the users who have created the account are the only ones with access, however, there is no explicit verification or security protocols put in place to solidify the safety of their users while on their platform. This research is to develop a proof of concept for an application that social media platforms can integrate within their software that will combine ID and biometric verification to enable users to surf their favorite platform with less worry.
