Due to its control by the Central Nervous System (CNS), individuals with neurological disorders may experience disruptions in regulating normal muscle tone, leading to various abnormalities. Hypertonia is one of these abnormalities, characterized by the abnormal increase in muscle tone and can be divided into spasticity and rigidity. This study aimed to capture and analyze the Electromyograph (EMG) signals of the biceps and triceps brachii to assess and distinguish these two conditions. Five spastic and five rigid adult participants were included in the study, and the experimental protocol consisted of performing 15 active extension and flexion movements of the arm while EMG was being captured. The results showed that the spastic group had a higher power amplitude than the rigid group. The Kruskal-Wallis test confirmed the differences between the groups. The study was able to distinguish the two types of hypertonia using EMG, showing that this is a useful tool to be applied in the evaluation of hypertonia.
