Complicated Diabetic Foot in the South Region of Brazil: A Descriptive Study Using DATASUS Database
摘要
Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the most devastating complications of Diabetes Mellitus and may lead to amputations. The Brazilian Unified Health System concentrates data on the treatment of complicated diabetic foot, but not treated or processed, to facilitate data interpretation and epidemiological studies. Therefore, the present descriptive and retrospective study details the treatment of complicated diabetic foot, i.e., one of the more serious conditions of DM complications, focusing on the South Region of Brazil. As a result, during the last ten years, the state of Santa Catarina presented the lowest rate of hospitalizations ( \(p<0.01)\) with a mean of 277.18 per year, and the patient stays more time in Rio Grande do Sul ( \(p<0.05\) ), with a mean of 8.91 days to treat the diabetic foot. The Semme Weinstein, 128 Hz tuning fork test, home visits, and nail inspection are some protocols to assess the diabetic foot.
