Towards Industry 5.0 in Tourism Sector Through Conceptual Modeling and Semantic Technology for Personalized Travel Itineraries

While the last two decades were dominated by the so called Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0 with rapid technological advancements, we are now facing a new shift in the industry, where the primary focus should no longer be on increasing efficiency or business profits but emphasizing the role of a company in promoting the well-being of the society. Although this is largely recognized, how to achieve it is still a relatively ambiguous desideratum. In the dynamic and competitive tourism industry, managing and designing personalized travel itineraries in an effective way is essential for ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. In this paper, we aim to contribute to improving this process by providing a solution that involves the creation of a conceptual modeling language. The language can be used for two model types: one for creating the actual itineraries, and another one for representing the resources needed for certain tourist attractions, such as necessary equipment. Additionally, we will store information from the created models in a graph database using RDF serialization, benefiting of the Linked Data capabilities that enable connecting with information that resides outside the modeling environment (e.g. about each tourist). Using a graph-based structure enables data analysis and easier identification of connections and patterns between elements.
