The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of incorporating nanostructured silver vanadate decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgVO3) into a commercial dentifrice. The antimicrobial was incorporated into the dentifrice in 5 concentrations: 0 (control), 1%, 2.5%, 5% and 10%. The double layer agar diffusion technique was used to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the dentifrice against the microorganisms Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans. The experiment was carried out in triplicate. ANOVA and Tukey's post-test (α = 0.05) were used. For the inhibition halos, only for C. albicans was there no significant difference (p = 0.097) between the AgVO3 concentrations and the control group. For S. aureus, the 5% (p = 0.023) and 10% (p = 0.004) groups had the largest halo, statistically different from the control, while for S. mutans the 2.5%, 5% and 10% groups had the largest inhibition halos (p < 0.001) compared to the control. With regard to the transition zone, for C. albicans, all concentrations were different from the control group (p < 0.001), while for S. aureus and S. mutans, the 2.5%, 5 and 10% groups (p < 0.001) showed a larger transition zone compared to the control. It can be concluded that the incorporation of AgVO3 showed effectiveness for S. aureus and S. mutans.

摘要

It can be concluded that the incorporation of AgVO3 showed effectiveness for S. aureus and S. mutans.
