The representations I examine, when they pass as human, present as conventionally attractive for the pleasure of typically white, heterosexual, cisgender men. However, their autonomous actions and asserted agency reclaims their femininity from previous subordinated associations. These examined representations reveal an understanding within US’s and UK’s science fiction (SF) films of constructed femininity: what is attractive or alluring through these characters’ continued derivatisation. Nevertheless, the closer to 2023 these representations are, the more their depictions are cautionary tales which warn against underestimating or dismissing these characters as subordinated objects, through their manipulations of the other characters who view them in such limiting terms. There is much work to be done, however, through the answers this book presents, I provide a basis for future research while enhancing and complementing existing scholarly work, and I hope this work can continue to expand for as long as female-presenting artificial characters and creations exist.
