Advances and Challenges in 3D Bioprinting: A Systematic Bibliometric Review for Medical Applications

The meticulous review of the articles integrated into this study shows the current uses and the future form of implementation of 3D printing in medicine, highlighting its influence in fields such as tissue regeneration, orthopedics, prosthetic customization, and studies on the affordable creation of functional organs. This technology has followed a process of gradual transformation from stereolithography to bioprinting, facilitating the development of layer-by-layer printing of biomaterials, biocompatible tissues, and structures for cell healing and regeneration. While it offers revolutionary solutions, it faces obstacles such as adaptability, print times, and lack of funding in certain regions. This document presents an analysis of 306 publications, where most of the studies focus on the practice of these medical procedures and above all highlight the ability of bioprinting to improve personalized regenerative medicine, positioning it as an effective solution. In short, the findings highlight the transformative role of bioprinting in medicine, thus alleviating the need for innovative treatment options and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.
