OVD. Angel Cake Batter and the Eye
摘要
This substance, now used in numerous cosmetic and eye drop formulations, was described just 75 years ago. Hyaloronic acid or hyaluronan (HA) is a viscoelastic polysaccharide appears in all tissues of the human body. HA is present particularly, in large amounts in the vitreous of the eye as well as the soft tissues of joints and skin. This substance was not designed to “iron out wrinkles.” It was developed to be used in ophthalmic practice. While indispensable in cataract surgery, hyaluronic acid is commonly used in eye drops, contact lens rewetters, and cosmetics because of its high wetting and water-binding properties.
