The article analyzes the communication tools for home automation systems that allow interaction with smartphones. Possible ways of communication with smartphone, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as the most common communication options, GSM, 3G, 4G, NFC, Infrared (IR) remote control, sound channel, optical channel in form of Visible Light Communication (VLC), and using of QR codes are considered. Those technologies are compared by four criteria, including distance and power consumption. The widespread ready modules to support the use of communication technologies are analyzed and compared by four criteria. Practical example of creation of communication with the implemented automation system for window blinds is provided. Scientific novelty of obtained results in the study is in the formulated recommendations for choosing the acceptable ways of communication with the home automation systems in order to increase an efficiency, convenience and stability considering the possibility of maintaining of communication with smartphone in conditions without access to Internet and without centralized power supply.
