In rare cases, seizures can manifest with a sensation of disequilibrium (unassociated with other features) that starts abruptly, lasts seconds, and stops abruptly. An electroencephalogram may show abnormalities compatible with seizures in a specific area. However, since epileptic vertigo is rare, it is reasonable to screen for alternative diagnoses. If no more convincing diagnosis is found, and if symptoms are frequent or otherwise intrusive, then treatment with antiseizure medication is reasonable.
